Planting Ornamental Grasses

Pocket Planting
Pocket planting means to grow plants in crevices, along borders and in between other man-made places.  Use a half amount of topsoil and a half amount of organic matter.

Season to Plant
The best time to plant ornamental grasses is in the spring or early summer.

Spacing
The spacing of plants depends on their size.  Small grasses need 1 to 2.5 feet and tall grasses need 4 to 5 feet of space from other plants.  Spacing is to prevent root competition between the ornamental grass and other plants.

General Planting
Remove the grass ornamental from its container.  Breakup the root ball if it is root bound and dig a hole deep enough to hold it.  Put the root in the hole and fill with water.  Then refill with soil so that the root ball should be slightly below surface.
